Here's what Starving Artists Courses is all about...
Hello artist - thank you for visiting! My name is Juiette Payne, an entrepreneur, YouTuber, and music instructor from Maywood IL.
You might know me as the singer-songwriter of Juiette Z. Payne Music, and founder of Starving Artists Studios (SAS), an after-school non-profit organization created to train aspiring creators in the arts.

From a Non-Profit to a New Baby
I developed a passion to teach music after graduating from college. In 2013 I founded Starving Artists Studios, my first music education business. SAS was a non-profit after-school program that thrived in teaching students music and the arts. The business was on an upward trend, averaging over 50 students on a weekly basis! Our students were passionate about developing their creativity! It was a proud time for SAS and for our students when they could show case all that they learned from the semester in front of family and friends during each end of semester Gala performance event.
But then 2016 happened.
My wife and I found out we were expecting our first child! It was exciting news that preceded drastic changes.
Simply put, working part-time in the morning and operating a non-profit after-school program in the evening would not be conducive to the new season we would be entering into. I had to find a new line of work that would open up my schedule, while still supporting my family financially. We made the tough decision of placing SAS on an indefinite hiatus in order to shift our time, energy, and attention to our new baby.
But the passion to continue our music education business never left; in fact, it grew stronger. We knew we absolutely had to reach our budding musicians again, somehow, someway.
Out With The Old. In With The New.
After many conversations with our former students and other music lovers I noticed a few common themes. First, I noticed that many are passionate about music and at some point in their lives started to learn. Though they weren't musically inclined and found it difficult to understand so they gave up on it. Secondly, they've always wanted to take music lessons but simply couldn't afford them. Lastly - time. People just can't find enough hours in the day to dedicate toward learning and practicing an instrument.
The Shift
My team and I took all of these factors into consideration as we other options of teaching the arts while maintaining a healthy balance between home/work life. After a lot of research, we decided to make the shift from in-person lessons, to online education! This would not only allow us to maintain a healthy home/work life balance, but also reach so many more students than we would have in a single location.
So my team and I took all of these factors into consideration while developing this resource. We worked hard to bring you something new, something relevant, and something that would take your musicianship to the next level!

Starving Artists Courses is your all-in-one online music education resource.
What does Starving Artists Courses mean?
A lot of people ask where the name came from. Now let me give a little clarity here. This does not mean that we're starving, or begging for food or always broke. As a matter of fact, it's the complete opposite. It's starving in the sense of being hungry and having the yearning and desire for your musical and artistic creativity to be unlocked.
What we offer
We teach acoustic, bass and electric guitar; drums, piano, and voice. We offer three services:
Weekly Online Lessons
Here at Starving Artists Courses we want you to dive right in and start learning your favorite songs. Online lessons are uploaded to our YouTube channel every week. Each month you will learn to play one new song, and each week you will learn a different instrument of that song. So by the end of the month, you will be able to play the song in its entirety!
Memberships
Our membership packages offer personalized one-on-one music lessons so students can receive the individualized attention needed to enhance their skill. Members will also gain exclusive access to the Starving Artists Community, an online forum where members can connect with a group of like-minded individuals who also want to develop their skills as an artist.
Courses
Our courses are instrument specific. By the end of our course you will be able to go from no musical experience, to performance proficiency.
