Module 1 – Getting to Know the Violin
Learn the parts of the violin, how it works, and how to safely handle it from day one.
Module 2: Open String Songs & Stomp Technique
In this module, you'll explore more open string songs and learn your first “stomp” rhythm with the GDG Stomp song. You'll practice playing while standing and sitting, experiment with different hand positions, and get comfortable connecting notes across strings.
Module 3: Foundational Rhythms & Bow Basics
In this module, you'll learn your first rhythm patterns and discover how to hold and move the bow correctly. You'll practice bowing with both arms, connect rhythms to motion, and get comfortable producing a clean, beautiful sound on each string.
Module 4: Tone Production & Finger Placement
In this module, you'll explore how to produce a beautiful, consistent tone using “tone animals” and practice proper bow control. You'll also learn correct finger placement on the strings, including finger patterns, tabletop shape, and hand alignment, setting you up for playing your first full song.
Module 5: Building Major Scales & Finger Patterns
Use the finger patterns you’ve learned to play a major scale using the fun “See Ya Little Monkey” song.
Module 6: Musical Form
In this module, you’ll explore the form of a song. You’ll practice the finger patterns, connect them to rhythm patterns you’ve learned, and understand how repeated sections create musical form.
Module 7: Intervals and Bow Strokes
In this module, you’ll learn about intervals—the distance between two notes—and how to recognize them by sound and association with familiar songs. You’ll also explore two basic bow strokes.
Module 8: Putting it Together!
Review everything you’ve learned—posture, tone, finger patterns, bow strokes, to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

The teaching style works well for teens and adults. Younger students can absolutely benefit too, especially with a parent guiding them.
You’ll need a violin, bow, and rosin. A shoulder rest is highly recommended. You’ll also need a device to watch the lessons and a tuner app (helpful, but not required).
